---Groundbreaking Ceremony of the VW Automatic Transmission Project
November 9 2007, the first Volkswagen wholly owned enterprise, Volkswagen Automatic Transmission (Dalian) Co., Ltd. held her Groundbreaking Ceremony in Dalian Development Area. After the establishment of the VW Engine Project (Joint-venture with China First Automobile Group) last year in DDA, this new WFOE was another milestone that Volkswagen made in Dalian marking the beginning of a new round of cooperation between Dalian and the VW Group. Both projects represent the most advanced VW automobile technology. ¡¡¡¡Xia Deren, the mayor of Dalian, Xing Liangzhong, Vice mayor, Zhang Jun, Director of DDA Administrative Committee and the deputy directors Hao Fanglin, Zhang Yadong and Wang Yanhui attended the ceremony. The Vice President of VW Global, Dr. Winfried Vahland showed up at the ceremony and laid foundation for the project together with the officials. Mayor Xia mentioned in his speech at the ceremony that VW Automobiles are one of the most advanced and competitive automakers in the world, and that VW¡¯s establishment of two projects with core technology content in Dalian has great importance to the revitalization of the Old Northeast Industrial Base and energizes the development of auto and parts manufacturing industry in Dalian. He said this project marks only the beginning of cooperation between Dalian and Volkswagen. The CPC Dalian and the Municipal Government will support as ever the development of VW¡¯s operations in Dalian. ¡¡¡¡Dr. Vahland pointed that the new project of VW will focus on the development of green energy and environmental protection concept. The new factory will bring 600 job positions to Dalian. He believed the joint effort of Dalian and VW Group will promote the development of auto industry in Dalian. ¡¡¡¡In recent years, the VW Group extended operation in Dalian; DDA has already become an important part of VW¡¯s global strategy. The new project¡¯s product, DQ200, the two-gear automatic transmission system, will be used for sports cars and greatly improve comfort and economy in fuel consumption. The project is estimated to complete construction in the end of 2008 and start production in the first half of 2009. The products will be supplied to the two VW joint ventured assembly lines in Changchun and Shanghai.
